The role
Norse Highways are currently seeking a Workshop Manager to manage our Norfolk based workshops in Hethersett, Ketteringham and Kings Lynn.
As Workshop Manager, you will support the wider Norfolk County Council, Norfolk Fire & Rescue Services and Norse fleet business areas, along with supporting Group Fleet/O Licence requirements as identified. You will also be responsible for ensuring safe, punctual, reliable and cost-effective delivery of services carried out by maintenance and repair staff on the fleet of high-profile front-line vehicles and plant. Some other duties will include.
Regulatory, Safety & Quality Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with road transport legislation, operator licence rules, MOT requirements, Fire Service Standards, and all workshop‑related laws and codes of practice.
- Manage and maintain all workshop documentation, quality systems, accreditations, records, risk assessments, safe systems of work, and health & safety procedures.
- Conduct quality checks, investigate compliance issues or incidents, and work with SHEQ to resolve and document them.
Fleet Maintenance, Scheduling & Business Continuity
- Prioritise, plan and schedule maintenance and servicing to maximise fleet availability and ensure legal standards are met all in accordance within the SLA’s.
- Maintain resilience and de‑risking strategies to guarantee business continuity.
- Coordinate out‑of‑hours support, 24/365 rota coverage, and respond to emergency call‑outs as required.
Operational & Facilities Management
- Manage workshop facilities, buildings and surrounding areas, reporting defects and ensuring a safe working environment.
- Oversee relationships with external contractors and suppliers, monitoring service cost, quality and performance.
Performance, Improvement & Strategy
- Develop, maintain and present performance metrics to ensure a cost‑effective, high‑quality service.
- Support fleet strategy alongside Transport Managers and the Highways Fleet Engineer and contribute to business cases to improve efficiency and capability.
Leadership, Team Development & Support
- Build, motivate and develop a high‑performing workshop team, ensuring training needs are reviewed and technical expertise is provided.
- Attend training, meetings, and seminars, and lead projects where required
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications
* Full Clean UK Driving Licence with Category B entitlement, ideally C entitlement
* City & Guilds 381 Motor Vehicle Engineering - part 3 or equivalent
* Automotive Engineering qualification
* IRTEC Commercial vehicle Inspection
* IMI Level 3 MOT Management - desirable
Knowledge/experience
* Proven knowledge and experience of vehicle maintenance workshops
* Proven management experience in a similar role managing diverse workshops operations for a minimum of 5 years
* Experience of using Fleet Management IT systems (e.g. R2C)
* Knowledge and ability to prepare for external and internal quality system audits.
* Working knowledge of legislation including RIDDOR, COSHH, LOLER, PUWER,DSEAR.
* Produce and maintain Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
