Norse Highways are looking to recruit a Ganger to join their growing team, this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Roadworker who has supervised a team in the absence of a ganger.
The successful candidate will supervise and participate within a team of 2-4 individuals, to ensure that the routine or construction work allocated by the Works Team is safely achieved on schedule and to the required standard.
This is a Norfolk based role and we have depots in Kings Lynn, Aylsham, Caister-on-Sea and Ketteringham.
Main Responsibilities:
- Where appropriate, ensure proper traffic management systems are in place and that the safety of the general public is protected. Ensure the procedures to protect the environment are also followed.
- To be responsible for Health & Safety on site.
- Safe keeping and operation of significant plant including vehicles up to LGV (C+E), heavy rollers, loading shovels, mowers etc. including responsibility for their daily maintenance.
- To read and interpret utility plans, to communicate the location of these to others on site, to mark out the location prior to works so that team and utility safety is ensured.
- Communicate with the public on pending /required work, progress and any problems.
- Liaise with the Works Co-coordinator and other colleagues on work progress/site productivity and potential problems.
- To attend pre-works and progress meetings regarding schemes and completing the appropriate paperwork.
- Plan and organise work tasks, adhere to Permit Scheme, allocating them to members of the Gang. Progress highway operations within recognised guidelines and make decisions without reference to the Works Co-coordinator / Local Operations
Job Requirements:
- Previous experience of working as a skilled roadworker and of working as a roadworker / apprentice or proven equivalent experience
- Multi skilled experience in numerous aspects of highway maintenance including H&S and permits
- City and Guilds Winter Service Operation Certificate (or prepared to work towards achieving this)
- Full clean Driving Licence to meet the travel requirements of the role
- Ideally you will hold a HGV licence
