40 Hours per week, No weekends
Our experienced team help to maintain, improve and manage the use of public roads. We offer a comprehensive range of services including pothole repairs, routine maintenance, carriageway surfacing and repair, private works, emergency response and gritting during the winter months.
Norse Highways have an opportunity for an experienced HGV Technician to join our Highways depot in Hethersett working 40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 7:30am - 16:00pm & Friday 07:00am - 15:30pm. In support of Norfolk Fire & Rescue, Winter and company owned vehicles. Highways manage and maintain approximately 9,800km of Norfolk’s highways on behalf of Norfolk County Council.
About the role:
You will be responsible for the upkeep of the company fleet of LGV vehicles ensuring all vehicles are serviced, maintained, and repaired in accordance with Operators Licence requirements and DVSA standards. You will also prepare vehicles for annual tests, road test vehicles to certify roadworthiness and attend breakdowns.
- Servicing and repair of vehicles and plant/equipment to a professional standard as per workshop procedures to ensure that vehicles/plant/equipment are fit for purpose and meet any appropriate legislation requirements e.g., O license, DVSA, Quality Assurance etc
- Legal documents, job cards and any other appropriate document is completed as required in line with appropriate standards and deadlines. This will ensure that vehicles and equipment can be used as fit for purpose and all costs are charged correctly.
- To monitor personal use of parts making sure parts are ordered in timely fashion using the established team structure/processing, ensuring that parts are available when needed to minimise vehicle/equipment downtime.
- Ensure work is carried out efficiently and in a timely manner to minimise vehicle downtime and maximise workshop income. To meet operational requirements and Fleet team downtime KPI`s all of which are essential to the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and Winter service.
- Attend breakdown and callouts within the working day and as part of emergency duty roster outside the working day to ensure the fleet is kept operational to give maximum availability. Working to deadlines to ensure that the fleet is operational to provide the necessary responses.
- Fault diagnose using dealer and aftermarket diagnostic equipment to trace and rectify faults ensuring downtime is kept to a minimum.
- Responsible for the recovery of vehicles and equipment from the site (either highway or emergency) to ensure assets are recovered safely and then repaired ready for re-use.
- Ensuring good customer relations with colleagues, other customers, suppliers and other partner organisations. To give users of the fleet service confidence, knowledge and understanding of the safe use of plant and vehicles.
Candidate Requirements:
- Ideally possess NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in HGV/Light vehicle Maintenance, however, candidates with time served are still encouraged to apply.
- Full UK Driving licence + CAT C licence as you may be required to pick up and carry out road tests of vehicles.
- Proven experience of working within a commercial workshop, on site, servicing, inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a range of vehicles and equipment.
- Working Knowledge of Vehicle Parts.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety and ability to promote best practice as an individual and for others.
- IRTEC certificate of competence heavy vehicles is desirable.
